It was sorted on Friday that we would go out on Sunday birding and go for the River warbler which has been at HamWall RSPB in Somerset so an early start was

agreed at we were on our way at 0400 and we started the long drive to Somerset which we should get there for 0730 all being well. The banter and conversation was good and as we headed down Steve said we needed to pull in to a service station to charge the electric car up as we wouldnt quite have enough miles to get there. We found a service station and it was agreed we would have half an hour here so it was time for a butty and a cup of tea and we were waiting to be charged.

We carried on after a short while and the conversation was getting better as the bird had been reported so we were positive. We pulled into HamWall at 08:30 and scrambled out of the car and started to make our way to the area where the River Warbler had been seen as we were going we saw birders returning smiling telling us the bird was still present and showing well. As we made our way round we saw a Great White Egret hiding in the Reed bed which is always a nice sight and a Grey Heron a bit further round Cormarants were flying round too we heard a Cettis Warbler which is a lovely bird to hear but quite tough to see.

We found the area we needed to be in for the River Warbler and after a short time Wayne picked up the bird as it started singing infront of us and it was showing so well for a bird that was last twitchable on the mainland 11 years ago.

The song of this bird was quite lovely its like a reeling but i noticed most of the time the bird stood on only 1 leg and was showing superbly in the reeds to the crowd that was beginning to assemble. Whilst we was there watching the River warbler we saw some lovely birds 2 great White Egrets were flying round 2 Marsh Harriers we heard a Water rail too which was squealing from the Reed bed.

We decided after an hour or so that we needed to make a move back towards the car as we needed to charge the car for the journey home as we walked back we found a open area with a viewing area and started to scan when we looked up into the sky and saw a Bittern flying over which is a great sight to see as you normally hear these secretive birds.

We arrived back at the car and it was decided to head to the Morrisons in Glastonbury where we could grab a full cooked breakfast and charge the car. We pulled in and started charging the car after downloading the umpeenth app to charge it up and headed off for breakfast which was a 7 out of 10 not the best i had but not the worse bacon and sausage best bits followed by the Fried egg.

We finished breakfast and headed back to the car which had charged a bit but we would still need to find another charging port and when it got back to the car a Cettis Warbler blasted out is song from next to a garden in Glastonbury unreal.

After travelling for a bit we decided to go to Weston Super Mare to charge the car we pulled up in the car park 1 port was been used so we tried the other no joy so we had to carry on so we headed to Portishead which we found a quick charging port so we put in on charge and waited we had a walk round the Marina which was quiet.

After 40 mins or so the car was fully charged and we set off home and after a very tiring day we arrived home at 17:30 a thoroughly enjoyable twitch was had and great company and banter was had .
